Chapter X: Publish Windows Applications

Uploading and assigning an application

Workspace ONE Unified Endpoint Management manages all types of applications for many platforms and in this lab we'll be publishing our own application. Note that applications can be configured through the native App Stores like Apple's, Google's and Microsoft's, but that we can also upload our own files and control every aspect of the installation.

  • On your ControlCenter Server
  • Open your Google Chrome browser
  • Navigate to your Workspace ONE UEM Console
  • Logon using your Username and Password
  • Click on Sign in
  1. Navigate to Apps & Books,  Applications, Native
  2. Click on Add, Application File
  3. Click Upload
  4. Click Choose File
  5. In the File name paste the following path \\horizon.euc-livefire.com\software\Applications\Lab3.2_Only(App Volumes)\notepad\notepad++.msi and click Open
  6. Click Continue
  7. On the Deployment Options tab note the install command msiexec /i "Notepad++.msi" /qn, device restart value and Reboot and Success Exit Codes
  8. Click Save & Assign
  9. In the Distribution screen, in the name field enter Win 10 - Notepad++
  10. For the Assignment Group select All Devices
  11. Click Create
  12. Click Save
  13. Click Publish

Installing the application on the Windows 10 Client

By now you've learned that applications can either be auto assigned or  published on demand. The first deploys the application automatically to the endpoint without any user action, where on demand published the application in the Intelligent Hub's App Catalog. Here the user can choose to install the application manually, which is what we'll do in this scenario.

  1. Go back to your W10client01 and open your Intelligent Hub
  2. Click on Apps
  3. Find and click on Notepad++
  4. Click on Install and Install again in the following pop-up
  5. Wait for the installation to complete and once completed find the application installed in the Start Menu
